Livin’ Like Jesus by Serving Others
Luke 14
Serving Principle 1 … A servant chooses humility.
Luke 14:11
“For those who exalt themselves (are proud) will be humbled (brought low), and those who humble themselves will be exalted (honored)”
Humility is the actions in which I choose to give up my natural tendency to be self-centered.
The actions of humility:
Relationship with God
Mercy, Compassion, Honesty, Trust, Faith,
Serving Principle 2 … A servant minds their attitude.
Luke 14:12-14
Then he turned to his host. “When you put on a luncheon or a banquet,” he said, “don’t invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For they will invite you back, and that will be your only reward. 13 Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.
2 Timothy 2:24 A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people.
Attitude is the action I choose to give up my expectation of reward.
The actions of attitude:
Acceptance, Forgiveness, Serving without demand, Because of Jesus Christ
Serving Principle 3 … A servant is motivated by Jesus Christ
Luke 14:25-27
Disciple – a learner (a student of Jesus Christ in order to be like Him)
Carry our cross – continual surrender of our will to God’s will.
Luke 1:38 Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.
