COMMUNITY: Understanding the basics

1. I.                    Review - we will be spending the next few months digging into how to understand the WORD, the SPIRIT and COMMUNITY
2. II.                  TEACH - APPLY - CELEBRATE

4. IV.                Today I am teaching to specific community that calls themselves the church - I invite all others to be intrigued and learn more
5. V.                  START WHERE YOU ARE
6. VI.                God created community
   1. a.       Gen.  1:1-3 - God created community out of who He is
   2. b.      God created, the Spirit hovered (over-seeing / protecting / bringing to be) the Word (Jesus - Jn. 1:1) brings into being all that God intended
   3. c.       Gen. 1:26 -27 - God creates us in His image
   4. d.      His image = community - to long for connection, to be known, to be loved, to serve to celebrate
   5. e.      Gen.  2 :18-23 - God creates community because aloneness is NOT good
7. VII.              JOURNEY OF REDEMPTION 1000’s of YEARS
8. VIII.            Jesus died for community
   1. a.        Jesus’ death establishes a direction and a goal for each of us
   2. b.      Cross-shape is not an accident - it is a mandate to us
   3. c.       Redemption can only happen through death and resurrection
   4. d.      Jesus death then we follow in dying to self
   5. e.      God’s plan is still intact
   6. f.        We are given the freedom to choose

9. IX.                Jesus’ resurrection creates a new community
   1. a.       Acts 2:1
   2. b.      Acts 2:42-474
   3. c.       Eph. 4:11-16
10. X.                  Why value community?
    1. a.       Community is the reflection of God
    2. b.      Community is why Jesus died
    3. c.       Community reveals God’s plan for His creation
11. XI.                We each are given the opportunity to come into agreement with God’s plan
    1. a.       We can alter God’s plan - adjust to fit our purposes
    2. b.      We can refuse to accept His plan
    3. c.       We can honestly own where we are
    4. d.      The WORD, the SPIRIT and COMMUNITY - (Jn. 10:10)

1. XII.              Make that decision today
