GODLY INFLUENCE

As I was reading through this week’s selection, I became intrigued by the story of Joash, who became king of Judah when he was seven years old.  His grandfather and father did not seek after God, and his grandmother killed all the other heirs to the throne except Joash, who was hidden away by the priest, Jehoiada.  Joash had every reason to follow in his family’s footsteps and turn away from following God.  Because of the godly influence of Jehoiada and his mother, Joash reinstituted temple worship to Jehovah God and “did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.”

This story reminded me of how our lives can cause others to turn their hearts to seek after God or have the opposite effect of turning them away from doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord.  Our primary area of influence is our immediate family, but there are many other areas where we can make a difference in someone’s eternal destiny; such as the workplace, school, sports and hobbies.   My prayer for our Crosswinds family this week is that we will have a greater awareness of our daily influence in the lives of those around us and allow God to direct our actions and conversation.
