![]() | A CHALLENGE TO PRAY (a bit more)Posted November 30, 2009 by Josh Jeffrey | ![]() |
I want to encourage us all to be more aware of the importance of prayer. Praying as we're driving home from work, on lunch break by ourselves, on a walk, or in those times of the day we have a moment to talk to God.
Praying and chatting about things like:
1. Telling God how great He is (exalt/worship Him)
2. Pray that God would draw you closer to Him (Repentance,
Asking for more of Him)
3. Pray that you would have the strength to spend more time
with Him and walk in His righteousness
4. Pray for our church
5. Pray for upcoming ministry or worship events @ C3 (Sundays,
Kidstuf, Sunday School, Small Groups, Special Events)
6. Pray for our church leadership... (For wisdom, strength,
holiness, more of Jesus)
You get the picture. I just want to challenge us all to spend
more time praying. It's been hard for me to find a "consistent"
time to pray, like at "4pm every day." I know life is busy,
especially if work is busy, you have kids, other activities...
But what's been great for me is to find those "spaces" in the
day where I'm usually listening to my iPod or just "zoning" out
to instead pray! Like driving to and from work (not picking up
the cell phone to call someone, or send a text message (only at
when I'm stopped at a red light)).
Where are those spaces in your day that you could pray? It
doesn't have to be an hour long (if you don't have that much
time), and you can even keep your eyes open :) Especially if
driving!
I firmly believe that if we pray just a little bit, we'll see
God do a littel bit. If we pray a lot, and ask him to
revolutionize us, our families, our church, then god will do A
LOT! Why? Because (1) we asked (John 14:13, And I will do
whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to
the Father) and (2) when our focus becomes prayer, we're more
focused on asking and looking for God to empower us and answer
our prayers (Colossians 3:2, Set your minds on things above, not
on earthly things).
